Protestant church, Aughrim.
This is a photograph of the Protestant church in Aughrim. With victory within his grasp, the Irish commander at the Battle of Aughrim, St. Ruth got careless and was decapitated with a cannon shot. Not having divulged his battle plan to anyone else, and having posted his second in command away from the main battle, his death had a catastrophic effect on his army, and handed an easy and decisive victory to the Williamites.
