Statue of Connemara, Recess
This is a photograph of a sculpture in the village of Recess, representing Connemara. The name Connemara derives from Conmhaicne Mara which means decendants of Con Mhac, of the sea. The Conmhaicne were an early tribal grouping which were located in various parts of Connacht. As this particular branch were located beside the sea they were known as the Conmhaicne Mara.
